Draft restrictions in Panama Canal impact your supply chain - As of May 24, even tighter draft restrictions will commence. Today it’s at 13.72m, later this week 13.56m and next week 13.41m. This reduces the cargo carrying capacity of the neo-Panamax containerships that use the 3rd set of locks for Panama Canal transit, and which is sensitive to the water level of Lake Gatun and drought. No relief in sight as El Nino is set to make 2023 dryer than normally. Consider services via Suez Canal to reach US EC.
