One of the long-time industry standards to measure ocean freight spot rates, The Shanghai Containerized Index, has been on a downward spiral and combined with overcapacity has led many shippers to believe they are in fact receiving great rates. But does the Shanghai Containerized Index measure the true ocean freight rates?
Meanwhile, the 57% that responded either not sure or indicated they were paying above market rates is an indication there may indeed be a need for a solution to benchmark port-to-port rates.
